Remembering
The leaves of memory seemed to make
A mournful rustling in the dark.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
This old cemetery was completely lost among weeds and high grass until a friend found it.
Now it is being kept up by a historical group.
It's hard to put into words the feelings that I got when visiting this old graveyard....
an awe of the past and wondering what their lives were like~
contemplating mortality~appreciating life
It was a very beautiful and peaceful place.

it seems we both have graveyard shots today.. :) and yes, awe is the right word when seeing tombstones that go way back in time..
Oh how lovely! So are your little fairies!
Happy May Day!

Lovely - and looks so good in monochrome. Reminds me of pictures I took of a historical cemetry over December .... must dig them up, so to speak!!!

Powerful dyptich. Really wonderful way to put these two together and tell the story.
It's so good to have found and rescued this cemetery. It's a shame when people put so much love into memorials and then everything disappears. Very moving photos.
I am drawn to old cemeteries too...I'd love to know the stories of those who are there. Beautiful pictures!
I love visiting and photographing cemetaries. What a find that your friend made!
I get the same feeling whenever I visit a cemetery...your words are a perfect description:)
