If You Need Me....Call Me

Don't call me at the number on that phone though....
No telling who would answer there.

Remember the days of rotary dialing?
We had rotary phones when I was young~
and I'm not that old!

Ugh~
To get almost through with dialing and then spin the wrong one
and have to start over.

Don't miss that.

But we probably were more focused on the conversations then.

You actually had to sit down and talk...
or at least could only do something for as far as the cord would reach.

Now if we leave our phones at home....
we have to go around the block and return home to get it.

My how the world has changed.

Yeah, I kinda miss those days! (especially the days when I could actually have a conversation with my son without him texting someone else at the same time.)

Great photo! I do remember those types of phones, as well as "party lines" and I'm not that old either! We used to have to wait forever for the old lady down the road to get off the phone so that we could use it! :)

We had a rotary phone, too, when I was a teenager. I have to admit, I kind of miss them...the sound of the "spin" when dialing:) And the cord on our kitchen phone would get so tangled and dangle to the floor...from all the stretching, just to get a little privacy! Lot of memories wrapped up in one little photo:)

You know, Chas, I think I preferred the rotary dial or at least the time when people did take time to truly communicate.

While I think cell phones are necessary and helpful, particularly in an emergency, I think people are less connected in some ways today than they've ever been. Then, again, the internet has brought together an amazing community of bloggers who are some of the nicest people I've ever met. So technology can be a good thing, too! :-)

Sheila

I miss these days, we used to sit in the larder as the phone cord reached around the corner in the kitchen and we could shut the door and chat away unheard and pick all the labels off the tin while we talked, drove my mother mad! love your shot

and the phone that hung on my grandparents wall ... one short and two long ... or whatever combination to reach the person you wanted

Fun post. I have one of these in the grandkids toy box that came from my in-laws. I might need to pull it out if it is worth something. Our phone numbers had words for the first part. Like Fairfax or Evergreen.

Hasn't been that many years ago and some people I know still have these. We don't even have a land line anymore. Vintage:-) ... and yet it's true.

Oh oh, I'm getting up there in age! I remember these phones, the ones where there was never a private conversation because the phone was centrally located in the house and there was only one phone or the neighbors were listening on the party line. Today the kids can speak as they choose to without parents ever knowing what they're up to, not a good thing in my opinion but it's a reality in our instant society we all live in. Progress or hindrance?

Magnificent photo Chas! Thank you for the jarring my memory back to the good old un-private days! :-)

So true, we were on a party line and had our own ring 2 longs, 1 short but everyone listened into everyone's conversation when my parents were not home. Thinking of Shauna all day today, said many prayers....:-)Hugs

You must have had to travel far and wide to find an old rotary dial phone. Were you at the museum? Nice shot and nice aging treatment.

WOW! It's been centuries (or so it seems) since I've seen a phone like that.
My - how life HAS changed!

Nothing like sitting back and reminiscing a little while - and that's what your photo brings on. Great shot that evokes so many memories. Yes, I recall these and an even older model (mouthpiece separate from the ear piece), and party lines ...

Lovely, Chas.

Wonderful texture treatment - it works perfectly with this image of the old rotary phone.

2:45 AM and I just came across your blog--and while it's time to sleep, I want to keep looking at your photos! I like your site, but I may have to give in to sleep. I'll be back, though.

I remember these old phones very well, and the really old wall-mounted phones that were rung by using a hand cranked mechanism.

Thanks for the late-night nostalgia.
