The Old Church

Through many dangers, toils, and snares
I have already come.
Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.
~John Newton

This beautiful old church building is located in the town where I live.
It's is incredibly lovely.
Another one of equal beauty was tore down a few years ago.
When I saw the pile of rubble....
I stopped my car right there and just sat in disbelief.
I honestly could have cried.
{and I'm not the crying type}

I wish that I would have gotten some photos of that old church building too.
The space just sits there now~ empty.
What a shame.

Chasity,
My father is a retired stone mason. I grew up with a closeness to old quarry cut stone buildings, they are my favorite type of structure. Sadly too many people would have them torn down and replaced with aluminum buildings with mirrored windows. I've often thought of collection photos of old buildings relics from a different time, maybe some day I will before the last of them are toppled by the wrecking ball. Later. AJ

What a shame...feeling the same as you, the beauty and design of these old buildings is just amazing.

I'm with you - love seeing buildings with character, trees that have been around forever...there's some comfort knowing not everything changes.
They really should consult us first, shouldn't they?

Hi Chasity,

I understand how you feel. It appears that Quebec has the most churches in North America but sadly there are many less people attending church today. Many of our beautiful stone churches quite similar to the one you posted, are being transformed into condos. It breaks my heart to see such beauty just thrown away. I love your blog and its quotes. Thanks for sharing.

So glad you took this picture, you will always have it now. I don't know why they tear down so much of our history, such a shame. Many prayers for Shuana, hope you all will be together tomorrow....Hugs

that is a shame. i can not for the life of me figure out why such beautiful historic buildings are torn down in this country. we are such a new country as it is. i wish we would preserve what history we do have.

Beautiful church...love the stonework. It makes me sad to see old buildings "disappear", and I do cry!

Beautiful shot, and quote. Love that bit of light at the top (symbolic!). My favourite verse of Amazing Grace is the last: "When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun ..."
